The Australian election is coming up next month and today the opposition leader Tony Abbott revealed a new controversial maternity scheme. The Coalition’s scheme will provide mothers earning up to $150,000 with 26 weeks (6 months) of paid parental leave, at their actual wage or the national minimum wage (whichever is greater), plus superannuation (to a maximum of $75,000). Fathers will be eligible for two weeks out of the 26 weeks with the same conditions. In contrast, Labor’s parental leave scheme is paid at 18 weeks minimum wage (a maximum of $11,200). The new scheme will apply for each baby born after July 1, 2015 under an Abbott government.
It can be hard to change your lifestyle and eating habits and finding a healthy snack can be difficult. I tried a new protein ball recipe this weekend that I really liked so I thought I would share it with you. It’s not a yummy chocolate ball but it is yummy enough to satisfy my sweet tooth.
These protein packed power balls are a great source of complete protein that contain all the essential amino acids needed for repair and for a healthy immune system, also a good source of vitamin E and minerals from the almonds and fresh dates. The cinnamon adds a lovely flavour and also helps stabilise blood sugar levels. If you can’t have nuts, I would grind up some lovely sunflower, pumpkin and linseeds then throw them in the mix in place of the almonds.
After many phone calls (made by Simon so all credit goes to him) back and forth to our conveyancer and financial advisers it’s finally done, the home loan settlement is complete. It’s therefore official; we’re home-owners! Very exiting. Now we just have to wait for Irena (the previous owner) to get herself a little unit and move out so that we can move in. It sucks a bit not knowing when we get the keys but in the end I guess a month or two (or in worst case scenario three) doesn’t make that much of a difference.
Simon and I celebrate 4 very eventful years together today. As every couple we’ve certainly have had our ups and downs but I’ve enjoyed our adventures and I’m very blessed and happy to have Simon in my life. During the 4 years we’ve had a long distance relationship with endless Skype sessions, we’ve travelled together and we’ve lived in both Sweden and in Australia. We’re ready to take on new adventures and embark on a new journey, as house owners. Exciting times ahead! Lap five of the roller coaster ride starts today so it’s time to buckle up and enjoy the ride! 🙂
She may look cute and innocent but she”s not, she’s a little devil in disguise. She wakes us up every single night/morning….most of the time around 4.30-5am, sometime at 3am and if we’re lucky around 6 am. Molly thinks it’s playtime but we would prefer it to still be sleepy time, especially on a weekend. We boot her out of the bedroom but then she just whines outside the bedroom door, scratches the carpet and tries to break in. We’ve tried everything but nothing works, so most of the mornings one of us (usually me) take the pillow and move out on the couch so at least one of us gets a little bit of rest. My theory is that she’ll be better when she gets more space in the house and that she’ll grow out of it. Let’s just say I hope I’m right. I don’t ask for much, just a little sleep in to 8-9am or so would me nice. The lack of sleep is making me cranky.
Exciting news folks; I’ve booked a ticket back to Sweden over Christmas! Almost 3 weeks to catch up with friends and family, I’m excited! Unfortunately we can’t really afford for both Simon and I to go, so this time I’ll be travelling on my own. I wish I could have gone during the Swedish summer rather than winter (especially since it seems to be awesome this year) but since I’m a big Christmas fan I don’t really mind. I’ve spent the last two Christmas’ in Australia so it’s time for a cold one again, there will be plenty of summer and sunshine for me here when I get back home again. My work close down for a couple of weeks over Christmas and it’s a quiet time of the year so it’s a good time to go for that reason too. I’m managed to find flights with Singapore Airlines with great flight times (22-23 hours each way) with only one stop so I’m pretty happy.
Things I look forward to with my trip;
- Catching up with family
- Spending time with my Nana
- Seeing my friends
- Cuddle with Pollux & Nova ♥
- Christmas food
- Eating fil
- Snow (hopefully there is some)
- All the Christmas decorations and lights
- Going to a Christmas market
- Having a real Christmas tree (yes mum, this year you HAVE to have one and it has to be inside too so we can smell it).
