All over the news in Sweden right now
A 30 year old zoo keeper was killed in a wolf attack at Kolmården Zoo on Sunday. The woman is believed to have entered the wolf enclosure alone, and been with the wolves up to one hour before her colleagues discovered that she was missing. Since she was alone and the enclosure has no CCTV monitoring no one knows exactly what happened but her personal belongings were found all over the enclosure so it seems she’s been knocked over and dragged away by the wolves.
The zoo keeper had been working with the eight wolves for over three years and also looked after three of them since they were puppies. She was also one of the wolf guides at the zoo’s wild encounters program where visitors, together with the guide went into the wolf enclosure and during an hour got to know the animal more closely. This activity has due to the attack on Sunday ceased to exist. The zoo has still not decided whether the wolves will be put down.
Apparently there hasn’t been a fatal wolf attack in Sweden since the 1820’s when a wolf killed nine people, most of whom were young children.
